Assisteens®

Assisteens_02Ready…set…go…go…

The Assisteens, a philanthropic youth group, started in 1958. The current group consists of 44 teens, seventh through twelfth grades. They range in age from 12 to 18. Each Assisteen volunteers 40 service hours per year to their philanthropic programs. They fund their philanthropic programs and assist the chapter.

The active members are proud to encourage and provide volunteer opportunities for today’s youth.

  • Operation School Bell®
Assisteens supply books, underwear and socks for children in this program.
  • Senior Neighborhood Fellowship
Assisteens prepare favors for monthly Assistance League of Glendale’s luncheons for senior citizens.
  • Friends of the Desi Geetsman Foundation City of Hope
Assisteens decorate the pediatric ward for Halloween, Christmas and Springtime and assist with holiday parties for patients and their families.
  • Adopt-a-Family
The Assisteens support the Adopt-a-Family program by providing needy families in Glendale with clothing, toys, school supplies, and grocery scrip at the holidays.
  • Toys for Tots
Assisteens contribute toys annually to the Toys for Tots Program.
  • Spiritual Care Guild
Assisteens support the Spiritual Care Guild of Children’s Hospital in Los Angeles by baking cookies and making friendship bracelets for hospitalized children and their siblings.
  • Ascencia
Ascencia is a homeless shelter for families in Glendale. Monthly, the Assisteens decorate the main living room, bring crafts and refreshments for the residents. The Assisteens participate in the guest chef program by planning, purchasing, and cooking a meal for the families at the shelter.
  • Birthday Box Project
Assisteens provide party and gift items to create a birthday celebration for a needy child and his/her family in temporary housing.
  • Festival of Trees
All those who have attended the Festival of Trees will remember the pretty girls holding balloons and offering opportunity tickets; they are Assisteens!
  • Fundraising:
Assisteens’ philanthropic programs are supported by contributions and two major fundraising efforts:

    • Thrift Alley – Funds earned from staffing the thrift shop with their mother or guardian each Saturday go towards philanthropic programs
    • Annual Spring Gala and Presentation Luncheon –  Each spring the Assisteens and Assisteen Associates arrange a luncheon, senior recognition,
and presentation of all Assisteens.  This event also includes a silent auction.
